호주구세군 ‘2019 붉은방패모금’ 5월 25-26일 양일간 개최
– 구세군 붉은방패(The Salvation Army Red Shield) 모금을 위한 데이빗 콜먼 장관(The Hon David Coleman MP) 주관의 다문화 지역사회 대상 런칭 행사 개최
– 모국의 전통에 대한 자긍심과 새로운 시작의 발판인 호주에 대한 자부심을 가진 다문화 시민들에게 사회 재공헌 기회의 장을 열어드린다.
데이빗 콜먼 연방정부 이민 시민권 다문화부 장관(Federal Minister Hon David Coleman MP, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs)은 5월 1일(수) 2019년도 구세군(The Salvation Army)의 붉은방패 연례 모금행사(Annual Red Shield Appeal)의 런칭식을 개최했다. 이 행사는 호주 전역의 불우한 이웃을 위해 7,900만 달러의 기금 마련을 목적으로 다문화 지역사회를 대상으로 열린다.
다문화 지역사회를 향한 런칭행사는 구세군의 연간 주요 성금행사 중의 하나로 올해는 5월 25일과 26일 양일의 주말에 가정방문 모금활동이 전국적으로 시행된다.
데이빗 콜먼 장관(Hon David Coleman MP)은 런칭행사에 앞서 “호주의 다문화 지역사회는 호주사회의 경제 및 사회구조에 거대한 공헌을 해왔다. 우리는 우리나라와 여러 다른 배경의 호주인들의 공헌을 자랑스럽게 생각한다. 구세군의 2019년도 붉은 방패 연례 모금행사를 호주전역의 다문화 지역사회를 중심으로 런칭하는데 함께 할 수 있어 매우 기쁘다”고 말했다.
구세군의 전국 다문화 대변인 Lieut-Colonel Xuyen Pho 중령은 구세군은 호주 국내에서 도움이 필요한 모든 우리 이웃에게 서비스를 제공하고자 하는 취지를 가지고 있다고 강조했다. Lieut-Colonel Pho 중령은 “어려움은 차별을 두고 닥치는 것이 아니라서 호주 사회 각 곳으로부터 갈수록 많은 사람들이 구세군의 도움을 요청하고 있는 현실이다. 어려움을 겪고 있는 사람들에게 도움을 제공해, 어느 때보다 지금 여러분의 지원이 가장 절실하다”고 말했다.
지난 12개월간 구세군(The Salvation Army-The Salvos)의 활동으로 노숙자 38,000명, 중독 재활 14,000명, 재정상담 50,000여명, 가정폭력 피해 지원 5,000명, 긴급 재정지원 150,000여명 등의 도움이 제공되었다.
Lieut-Colonel Pho 중령은 “구세군에서는 주요한 다각적 사회 서비스를 다문화 호주 사회에 제공하고 있으며, 노숙자 지원, 여성과 어린이 서비스, 머니케어 단체를 통한 재정상담, 중독 재활 서비스, 구세군 인권변호회를 통한 법률 지원, 영어강습 등 다양한 서비스가 포함된다”고 설명했다.
또한 “일반대중의 아낌없는 지원을 바탕으로 구세군에서는 도움이 절실히 필요한 수천수백의 서민들을 계속해서 지원할 수 있다”며, “가장 도움이 필요한 곳에 희망을 심고자 하는 붉은방패 모금에 호주 사회의 여러분들께서 올해 더욱 많은 성금을 지원해 주시기를 부탁드린다”고 거듭 당부했다.
호주의 선구적 민영 다문화 마케팅업체 멀티커넥션즈사가 지난 해에 이어 구세군 활동을 지원하며 올해에도 런칭행사의 협찬을 맡았다. 멀티커넥션즈사의 CEO인 Sheba Nandkeolyar 회장은 호주전역에서 활동하는 구세군과 오랜 기간 맺어온 인연을 자랑스럽게 생각한다고 말했다.
난드컬리아(Nandkeolyar) 회장은 “자랑스런 모국의 전통과 함께 새로운 시작의 발판이 되어준 호주 사회에 자긍심을 가진 다문화 시민들이 다시 사회에 재공헌할 수 있는 기회를 환영할 것이라 믿는다”고 말했다.
구세군의 붉은방패 모금활동의 든든한 지원자로 지난 20여년간 성금활동을 이끌어 온 소수민족 사업가 어워드(Chairman of Ethnic Business Awards)의 조셉 아사프 회장(Mr. Joseph Assaf)은 “다문화 배경을 포함하여 사회 소외층에게 지원과 혜택을 제공하는 구세군이 가치높고 중요하다”고 말하며, “올해 가정방문 모금 활동에 자원봉사도 맡아주시고 성금도 내주시기를 모든 분들께 부탁드린다”고 말했다.
올해 붉은방패 모금 활동에 자원하시거나 성금을 보내고자 하는 분은 전화 13 SALVOS (13 72 58)번으로 전화송금을 이용하거나 salvationarmy.org.au를 통한 온라인 송금도 가능하며 Westpac 은행이나 Salvos Store에서 직접 성금할 수 있다. 수표를 이용하시는 경우에는 겉봉 수신자 주소란에 사서함 주소 ‘PO Box 9888’라고 적은 후 그 아래에 본인 거주지의 주수도명을 기재하여 우편으로 보내면 된다.

The Hon David Coleman MP launches The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal to multicultural communities
Multicultural audiences are proud of their country of birth and proud that Australia has provided them with a new beginning. They look forward to opportunities where they can contribute back.
Federal Minister Hon David Coleman MP, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, will today(1st May 2019) launch The Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal for 2019. The launch will appeal to Australia’s multicultural communities to help raise $79 million for Aussies in need.
The Red Shield Appeal launch to multicultural communities, is one of the key events for The Salvation Army’s annual appeal, which culminates with Australia’s biggest doorknock over the weekend of 25-26 May this year.
Commenting on the launch, the Hon David Coleman MP said, “Multicultural communities in Australia have contributed enormously to the economic and social fabric of our society. We are very proud of our nation and the contributions of Australians of all backgrounds. It is my privilege to launch The Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal for 2019 to multicultural communities across Australia.”
The Salvation Army’s National Multicultural Spokesperson, Lieut-Colonel Xuyen Pho, says the organisation’s services are open to every person who calls Australia home.
“Hardship does not discriminate. More Australians from all walks of life are turning to The Salvation Army for help and we need the public’s support now more than ever to ensure we can help those doing it tough” says Lieut-Colonel Pho.
Over the past 12 months, The Salvation Army (The Salvos) has supported more than 38,000 people experiencing homelessness, 14,000 people overcoming addiction, provided over 50,000 financial counselling sessions, given care to 5,000 people experiencing family violence, and assisted more than 150,000 people with emergency relief.
“The Salvos provide a number of important social services for multicultural Australia. These include homelessness support, women’s and children’s services, financial counselling through Moneycare, addiction and recovery services, legal assistance through Salvos Legal Humanitarian, English classes and many more.” says Lieut-Colonel Pho.
“It is only through the public’s support that The Salvation Army can continue to support the hundreds of thousands of Australians who rely on our services. We ask the Australian community to dig deep to support this year’s Red Shield Appeal and help give hope where it’s needed most.”
