믹타 회원국, 호주 산불 피해 위로 성명 발표

믹타(MIKTA)는 멕시코, 인도네시아, 한국, 터키, 호주로 구성된 중견국 협의체

한국, 멕시코, 인도네시아, 터키 등 믹타 회원국 외교장관들은 호주에서 발생한 산불 피해를 위로하는 공동성명을 1월10일(금) 발표했다. 믹타(MIKTA)는 멕시코, 인도네시아, 한국, 터키, 호주로 구성된 중견국 협의체로 2013년 9월 제68차 유엔총회 계기로 출범한 바 있다.

믹타 외교장관들은 공동성명에서 호주에서 발생한 산불로 인해 인명 손실을 포함한 대규모 피해가 발생한 점을 안타깝게 생각하며, 산불이 신속히 진압되기를 바라는 한편, 호주 정부와 국민들이 이번 산불을 극복해나감에 있어 믹타 차원의 연대를 표명했다.

한국의 제안으로 채택된 이번 공동성명은 올해 2월 우리나라의 믹타 의장국 수임을 앞두고, 믹타 차원의 협력을 재확인하는 계기가 된 것으로 평가된다.

믹타는 출범 이래 회원국 간 1년 주기로 의장국을 수임해왔으며(멕시코, 한국, 호주, 터키, 인도네시아 순) 한국은 2020년 2월 제7대 의장국 수임 예정이다.

MIKTA Foreign Ministers’ Joint Statement on the Bushfires in Australia

We, the Foreign Ministers of Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, and Turkey (members of MIKTA) are deeply saddened that the continuing bushfires in Australia have been causing enormous damage across the country, including the loss of many lives.

We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, and wish a prompt recovery to all who have been affected.

Sincerely hoping that the bushfires will soon be brought under control, we stand in full solidarity with the Government and the people of Australia in their efforts to tackle this unprecedented challenge.
