We’re excited to continue this journey with you in the year to come. KCC Gallery l NOW – Late February The red chair in your picture does not exist – Lisa Myeong-Joo From 1983 to 1992, a red vinyl chair with gold detailing quietly stood in a Seoul adoption agency. Known as the ‘photo chair,’ it supported children as their ‘first photo’ was taken before meeting their future families. Years later, an artist who once sat on this chair contacted the agency, only to be told, “The red chair in your picture does not exist.” But now, it does. Reimagined and extended to an impressive 4m in length, this new iteration of the red chair stands as a thoughtful reflection on the history of Korean transnational adoption. It offers a shared space for visitors to pause, reflect, and connect with themes of repair, belonging, and return. Step into this reflective story at the KCC AU. The artist would like to thank Pink Cactus Props whose expertise, dedication and sensitivity brought the red chair back to life. And to all of those who sat on the red chair, and those who didn’t––this is for you/us to sit on together, now.(Image Credit Jessica Maurer) |
