호주 원주민들의 업적을 기리는 ‘호주 원주민 특별주간’ 성료
6-13일까지 “Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond”란 주제로 실시
지난 7월 6일부터 13일까지는 호주의 원주민들에게 특별한 한 주간 이었다. 바로 National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee Week(이하 NAIDOC Week)로 이 기간은 ‘호주 원주민 특별주간’이었다.
매년 7월에 호주 원주민과 토레스 해협 주민의 역사적, 문화적 업적을 기념하는 주간으로 원주민뿐만 아니라 호주 전 국민이 모두 축하하는 주간이다.
한 주간 동안 호주 전국에서 NAIDOC Week가 열리며, 이 주간의 끝에는 국가적인 NAIDOC Awards 시상식이 있었다. 매년 다른 도시에서 시상식이 열리는데, 호주 원주민이 더 나은 삶을 살 수 있도록 기여하고 원주민에 대한 주요이슈를 사회에 널린 알린 사람에게 주어진다. 올해 2014년에는 골드코스트(Gold Coast) 시상식이 진행되는데 각 영역별로 상이 수여됐다.
2014 NAIDOC Award 수상자로는 Lifetime Achievement Award(Linda Burney, NSW), Person of the Year(Gracelyn Smallwood, QLD), Female Elder of the Year(Patricia O’Connor, QLD), Male Elder of the Year(Richard Archibald, NSW), Caring for Country(The Uunguu Healthy Country Project, WA), Youth of the Year(Chern’ee Sutton, QLD / Amelia Telford, NSW), Artist of the Year(Shellie Morris, NT), Scholar of the Year(Donisha Duff, ACT), Apprentice of the Year(Patricia Doolan, NSW), Sports person of the Year(Jesse Williams, QLD)를 각각 수상했다.
