로드니 윌리암 스타크 (Rodney William Stark)는 1934년 7월 8일, 미국 노스다코타 제임스타운에서 출생했다.
캘리포니아대학 (The University of California, Berkeley)에서 수학한 후, 워싱턴대학 (the University of Washington)에서 32년간 사회학 그리고 비교종교학 교수를 역임하였다.
2004년 이래로 베일러대학 (Baylor University)의 사회과학 교수로 있었다.
종교사회학에 적용시킨 종교사회학 분야의 유명한 학자였다.
종교사회학 및 종교사에 관해 수십 권의 책을 저술했다.
