Explaining the Results
- Only Abve The Line (ATL) votes are counted on election night. Below the Line votes by candidate will only be included in the count when data entry starts next week.
- A single total for all Below The Line (BTL) votes will be reported on the night. This is shown at the top of the table as a total for ‘Others/BTL’ votes. Some of these will make it into the count as formal BTL votes. Some may end up being informal.
- A total is also kept of ‘Blank’ ballots, papers with no markings at all. This is by far the most common form of informal vote at NSW elections. Few other checks for formality are undertaken on election night.
- Quotas by party are being calculated based on Formal votes, excluding Others. This will slightly inflate the quotas for Labor and the Coalition as BTL voting is more common for smaller parties.
- DO NOT BE CONFUSED BY THE GROUPS WITH ZERO VOTES.With only ATL votes being counted at this stage, the seven groups (including Ungrouped) without an ATL box will be shown with zero votes. These groups do have votes but they will not be included in the count until data entry of votes starts next week.
