Paul Moussa Awarded OAM – Celebrating his honour for Outstanding Community Service
Many of you will now have heard the news – that Paul, our one and only Meals Plus Coordinator, was recognised in the Kings Birthday Honours list with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Personally, I cannot think of a more worthy recipient.
As we all know, Paul’s passion for and commitment to our Meals Plus community is extraordinary.
So, what is the Order of Australia?
The Order of Australia is one of the highest civilian honours in the country, established to recognise Australian citizens and others for outstanding achievement or service. The awards are announced twice a year: on Australia Day and the King’s Birthday. The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) is one of several levels within the Order, awarded to individuals whose service or achievements deserve special recognition for their contributions to the community, public service, or other significant achievements.
What did Paul receive it for?
Paul received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in for his service to the community through his role as Coordinator of Parramatta Mission’s Meals Plus program and his services to those in need. Under Paul’s guidance, Meals Plus has grown into far more than a food service. People experiencing homelessness, social isolation, and hardship find not just meals, but community and care.
He was “shocked and humbled” to receive this honour. After spending much of his life and career as a butcher, Paul made a life-changing decision to dedicate himself fully to serving others. He pursued this path not for accolades or awards, but out of a deep desire to improve the lives of those in his community. While he may not have expected it, his dedication and impact make him undeniably deserving of this accolade.
Chair of the Parramatta Mission Board, Ian Gray, is beyond pleased to see Paul receiving the recognition he deserves and is thrilled that his years of quiet, unwavering service are being honoured – “We give thanks to God for Paul and Meals Plus as the service seeks to nurture and care for some of the most marginalised in our community. Paul sees the infinite worth of every client that connects with Meals Plus and his impact is beyond measure.”
Paul began with Parramatta Mission in the role of Support Worker at Hope Hostel in 2009 before moving into the position in Meals Plus in 2016.
Since he joined this team, Meals Plus has grown & developed in many, many ways. Over the past eight years, we’ve more than doubled our impact – growing from 35,000 to 75,000 meals served annually. This demonstrates the growing need in our community and has led us to expand our services to provide more holistic support – to not only provide for immediate needs, but to facilitate, connect and educate our guests. He embodies inclusivity and offers care to so many in our community and we are grateful for his service. Through his leadership and the dedication of our incredible team and volunteers, Meals Plus has become the heart of our community.
But no captain sails alone. Paul is always the first to acknowledge the tireless support of our staff, volunteers, donors, congregations and friends. Together, you help change lives – often in ways you may never fully realise.
As we give thanks to God for Paul – his faithfulness, his care, his love for every person he meets, and his voice for those often unheard – we also give thanks for you.

개인적으로 저는 이보다 더 가치 있는 수상자를 떠올릴 수 없습니다.
우리 모두가 알다시피 폴이 Meals Plus 커뮤니티에 대해 보이는 열정과 헌신은 엄청납니다.
그렇다면 호주 훈장은 무엇일까요?
오스트레일리아 훈장은 호주 시민을 비롯한 모든 사람들의 뛰어난 업적이나 봉사를 기리기 위해 제정된 호주 최고 민간 훈장 중 하나입니다. 이 훈장은 매년 두 번, 호주의 날과 국왕 탄신일에 수여됩니다. 오스트레일리아 훈장 메달(OAM)은 이 훈장의 여러 등급 중 하나로, 지역 사회, 공공 서비스 또는 기타 중요한 업적에 대한 기여로 특별한 인정을 받을 만한 봉사나 업적을 세운 개인에게 수여됩니다.
