전현구 목사의 목회단상 – Liz의 삶과 영원한 소망을 기리며 (In Celebration of Liz’s Life and Eternal Hope)

주님께서 사랑하는 Liz를 부르셨습니다.

슬픔과 안타까움을 말로 다 표현할 수는 없지만, 분명한 것은 Liz는 교회와 이웃을 섬기는 일이 곧 주님을 섬기는 일이라고 믿으며 평생을 살아오셨다는 사실입니다.

저는 존경하고 사랑하는 Liz를 만날 때마다 늘 기쁘고 행복했으며, 감사한 마음이 가득했습니다. 그 이유는 그녀의 삶을 이끌었던 네 가지 신앙의 중심이 있었기 때문입니다.

1. 성도의 교제

Liz는 만날 때마다 밝은 미소와 따뜻한 인사로 사람들을 맞이했습니다. 누구에게나 거리낌 없이 다가가는 따뜻한 마음은 낯선 땅에서 살아가는 많은 이민자들에게 큰 위로와 희망이 되었습니다.

2. 봉사와 섬김

교회 구석구석에는 Liz의 사랑의 손길이 닿아 있었습니다. 다민족 공동체와 다양한 사역, 여러 프로그램, 그리고 노숙인 사역에 이르기까지 모든 일이 원활하게 이루어질 수 있도록 묵묵히 헌신한 참된 섬김의 리더였습니다.

3. 교육과 역사 보존

Liz는 교회의 수많은 자료를 수집하고 정리하며 공동체의 역사를 소중히 보존했습니다. 그녀의 수고는 오늘의 기록을 넘어, 다음 세대를 위한 귀한 신앙의 교육 자료이자 믿음의 유산으로 남게 될 것입니다.

4. 예배와 선교

교회력에 따라 예배 공간을 아름답게 준비하고, 다문화 선교를 위해 교회를 기꺼이 개방하며 다양한 공동체가 함께 사용할 수 있도록 배려했습니다. 그녀에게 예배와 선교는 단순한 사역이 아니라 삶의 방식이었습니다.

이 모든 열매는 결코 하루아침에 이루어진 것이 아닙니다.

오랜 세월 한결같이 이어진 Liz의 헌신과 사랑, 그리고 사람을 품는 넓은 마음이 있었기에 가능한 일이었습니다.

Liz가 남긴 포용과 헌신, 그리고 사랑의 신앙은 앞으로도 연합교회 공동체와 다음 세대에게 오래도록 귀한 본이 되고 깊은 도전이 될 것입니다.

개인적으로도 저는 어려운 시간을 지나면서 Liz에게 많은 사랑과 도움을 받았습니다. 지난 26년 동안 Korean Faith Community를 위해 함께 기도하고, 지켜 주고, 도와 주며, 한결같은 사랑을 베풀어 주신 그 은혜를 평생 잊지 않겠습니다.

사랑하는 Liz,

주님 안에서 아름다운 수고를 마치고 영원한 안식에 들어가신 당신께 깊은 존경과 감사의 마음을 드립니다. 당신이 우리 가운데 남긴 사랑과 믿음의 발자취는 오래도록 기억될 것입니다.

이제 남겨진 가족 Mario, Callum, Charlotte, Lan 그리고 Margie 위에 하나님의 크신 위로와 평강이 함께하시기를 진심으로 기도합니다.

“나는 부활이요 생명이니 나를 믿는 자는 죽어도 살겠고, 무릇 살아서 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 죽지 아니하리라.”(요한복음 11:25–26)

Our Lord has called His beloved servant, Liz, into His eternal presence.

No words can fully express the sorrow and sense of loss we feel today. Yet one truth remains unmistakably clear: throughout her life, Liz believed that serving the Church and caring for others was, above all, an act of serving Christ Himself.

Every time I met Liz, I was greeted with joy, encouragement, and heartfelt gratitude. Her life was shaped by four enduring pillars of faith that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

1. A Life of Christian Fellowship

Liz welcomed everyone with a radiant smile and genuine kindness. Her gracious spirit and warm presence bridged distances between people, bringing comfort, friendship, and hope to many immigrants seeking a place to belong.

2. A Heart for Service

The marks of Liz’s faithful service can be found throughout the life of our church. Whether supporting our multicultural ministries, coordinating countless programs, or caring for those experiencing homelessness, she served quietly, faithfully, and without seeking recognition. She was a true servant leader whose actions spoke louder than words.

3. Preserving Our Story for Future Generations

Liz devoted herself to collecting, organizing, and preserving the history of our church community. Because of her dedication, our shared journey has been faithfully recorded and will continue to inspire and educate future generations as a treasured legacy of faith.

4. Worship and Mission

Liz enriched our worship by thoughtfully preparing the sanctuary in harmony with the Church calendar. She also embraced the vision of multicultural mission by helping make our church an open and welcoming place where people from many cultures could gather, worship, and serve together. For Liz, worship and mission were not merely ministries—they were the very rhythm of her life.

None of these lasting achievements happened overnight.

They were the fruit of years of quiet dedication, selfless sacrifice, generous love, and an extraordinary ability to embrace others with grace.

The legacy Liz leaves behind—a legacy of compassion, servant-hearted devotion, and unwavering faith—will continue to inspire the Uniting Church and generations yet to come.

On a personal note, I remain deeply grateful for the kindness and support Liz showed me during some of the most difficult seasons of my life. For twenty-six years, she faithfully prayed for, encouraged, protected, and lovingly supported the Korean Faith Community. Such generosity of spirit is a gift I will always treasure and never forget.

Dear Liz,

Thank you for a life so beautifully lived in the service of Christ and His people. Having completed your earthly journey with faithfulness, you now enter the eternal rest prepared by our Lord. The love you shared and the example you set will continue to live on in our hearts.

We pray that God’s abiding comfort, peace, and strength will surround Mario, Callum, Charlotte, Lan, and Margie, and all who mourn her passing.

“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”(John 11:25–26)

Dear Liz, may you rest forever in the perfect peace of our Lord.
