엠마오로 가는 길 (The Way to Emmaus)
누가복음 24장의 ‘엠마오’라고 하는 원래의 장소는 어디일까? 본문에 의하면, 엠마오는 예루살렘에서 25리 정도 떨어진 곳에 위치하였다. Where is the original place called ‘Emmaus’ in chapter 24 of Luke’s Gospel? According to the text, Emmaus was located about 11km away from Jerusalem.
고대 자료에 엠마오와 관련된 다양한 내용들이 있지만, 어느 누구도 예루살렘에서 25리 떨어진 위치에서 엠마오라 하는 곳을 찾아내지 못하였다. Ancient sources have much information regarding Emmaus. But no one has found an ‘Emmaus’ at 11 km’s location from Jerusalem.
한 자료는 원래의 엠마오는 예루살렘에서 29 km 떨어져 위치하였다고 기록하고 있다. 하지만, 현재 엠마오라고 알려진 곳은 사실상 예루살렘에서 32 km나 떨어져 있고 그 정확한 발음도 ‘앰와스’다. One source records that the original Emmaus was situated 29 km away from Jerusalem. However, what is known as ‘Emmaus’ now is actually 32 km away from Jerusalem and even its precise pronunciation is [Amwas]. 더군다나, 어느 누구도 현재의 엠마오가 성경에 묘사된 그 ‘엠마오’라는 것을 증명하지 못했다 Moreover, nobody has proved that the current Emmaus is the same ‘Emmaus’ described in the Bible.
세계 각지에서 수십 만 명의 신자들과 관광객들이 매년 이 곳을 방문한다 Hundreds of thousands of believers and tourists from across the world visit the place. 그리고 그들 중 많은 이들이 현재의 그 ‘엠마오’로 향하는 길목에 서서 2천년 전 예수님과 두 제자들의 대화를 묵상한다. And many of them would reflect on the conversation between Jesus and the two disciples of 2,000 years standing on the way to the present ‘Emmaus’.
당신은 어떠한가? 당신은 실제의 엠마오로 가는 길을 알고 있는가? How about you? Do you know the way to the real Emmaus? 엠마오는 여기나 혹은 저 곳일 수도 있으며 심지어는 모든 곳이 엠마오일 수도 있다. Emmaus could be here, or there, and even everywhere could be Emmaus. 실제 엠마오의 정확한 위치는 여기서 중요치 않다 The precise location of the real Emmaus is not important here. 정말 중요한 것은 예수님은 당신의 제자들이 가는 그 어느 곳이든 ‘함께’ 가신다는 점이다 The real point is, that Jesus always goes with his disciples wherever they go.
옳은 질문은, ‘당신은 제자인가?’이다. The right question is, ‘Are you a disciple?’ 당신의 대답이 ‘네’라면, 그 분은 언제나 당신의 여정에서 당신과 함께 하실 것이다 If your answer is Yes, He will be always with you on your journey.
