MOFA Spokesperson’s Commentary on Recent Situation between Israel and Palestine
1. The Korean government expresses its deep concern over the currently aggravating situation of violence in Israel and Palestine. In particular, the government expresses its serious concern over the large number of civilian casualties, including children, caused by the indiscriminate firings of rockets from Gaza and by the responses thereto.
2. Violence cannot be justified under any circumstances. The Korean government calls on the parties to refrain from further escalation and immediately halt the use of force.
3. The Korean government holds the position that the status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem must be respected, and calls on the concerned parties to cooperate on the efforts by the international community to establish lasting peace between Israel and Palestine on the basis of a two-state solution.
